Jake Cuenca Plays His First Gay Role in ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ this Saturday

Jake Cuenca plays his first ever gay role this Saturday, October 15, in “Maalaala Mo Kaya” on ABS-CBN.

Jake shared that this MMK break was something he has been waiting for. “Since I joined ABS-CBN about four years ago, I really wanted to experience doing an MMK episode. In fact, I was thinking before that I’m okay just to be given the chance to guest star in a regular episode. And now that I’m part of one of the MMK’s 20th anniversary special episodes, I’m deeply honored. I feel really blessed for the opportunity,” Jake said.

According to Jake, he knew he was ready to take the challenging role. “I think I was ready for it. At first, I was scared to do it since this is my first time portraying a gay role. But I knew I was ready and this is the challenging role that I’ve been wanting to do for so long,” he shared.

In the “Spain” episode of MMK, Jake will be playing the life story of “Louie,” a Filipino transgender in Spain who strived hard to gain his father’s love. The episode is an inspiring story about how acceptance and forgiveness brought the relationship of a father and son even closer.

Shot in Barcelona, the “Spain” episode is written by Benson Logronio and directed by Dado Lumibao. It also stars Ricky Davao, Malou de Guzman, and Vivian Velez.
