Tropical Storm Pedring: Severe Weather Bulletin Number 9, issued at 1:00 a.m., Tuesday, 27 September 2011


At 1:00 a.m. today, Tropical Storm "PEDRING" has further intensified as it endangers Isabela-Aurora area.

Tropical Storm "Pedring" is estimated based on satellite and surface data at 170 km East Southeast of Casiguran, Aurora (15.9°N, 123.9°E) with maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph and is moving West Northwest at 17 kph.

Tuesday morning: expected to make landfall over Aurora-Isabela area

Tuesday afternoon: in the vicinity of Baguio City

Tuesday evening: 40 km South of Sinait, Ilocos Sur

Wednesday evening: 350 km West Northwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur


Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under Public Storm Warning Signals are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas are alerted against big waves or storm surges generated by this tropical cyclone.

Estimated rainfall amount is from 15 - 25 mm per hour within the 650 km diameter of the typhoon.

Typhoon Pedring is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon and will bring scattered to widespread rains over Southern Luzon and Visayas.
