Jessie Dellosa Named the New AFP Chief by PNoy

Lieutenant General Jessie Diaz Dellosa was named the new Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief by President Benigno Aquino III today, December 12.

Dellosa, who currently heads the AFP’s Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom), will replace AFP chief Eduardo Oban Jr., who will retire tomorrow, December 13, after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.

Dellosa was responsible for implementing "Oplan Daybreak", which rescued American missionary Gracia Burnham and killed Abu Sayyaf leader Abu Sabaya in 2002.

He was tactical commander of PSG’s Special Reaction Unit from 1988 to 1992, and eventually served the late president Corazon Aquino’s aide de camp.

Dellosa and Oban are both graduates of Philippine Military Academy Class 1979. They also both hail from Sorsogon in Bicol.
