Ogie Alcasaid Answers Criticisms On His Appointment To People Power Commission

Singer-composer-actor Herminio Alcasid, Jr. (popularly known as Ogie Alcasid), one of President Benigno Aquino III’s celebrity endorsers in May 2010 elections, has shrugged off criticisms questioning his appointment to the EDSA People Power Commission.

Critics hit Ogies’s appointment to the commission, saying it's a political payback for his support in the last presidential election.

But Ogie shot down all speculations as he pointed out that the position will not make him rich and that it is not even a “glamorous job.”

He maintained that he accepted it as part of his advocacy.

It's no secret na ako'y tumulong sa kampanya ni PNoy pero ang position na binigay sa akin, napakahirap na trabaho nyan.… ’Yong bayad utang, hindi. Parang nadagdagan pa ang problema ko. But I believe in it, I believe in the cause,” he said.

He also admitted that he could not decline the position when the President offered it to him.

“Hindi Ka Nag-Iisa” was used in PNoy’s political advertisement.

Joining Ogie in the commission are Christopher Carreon, Founding Chairperson of the Spirit of Edsa Foundation, Advertising Executive Emily Abrera, Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist Conrado de Quiros, former Trade Secretary Jose Pardo, former Government Service Insurance System Chief Cesar Sarino, and Milagros Kilayko.

Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. is the chairman of the commission.

The commission promotes the ideals of People Power 1, which was led by former president Corazon Aquino in 1986.

Meanwhile, TV host-Talent manager Boy Abunda, who is known to be a very good friend of the Aquinos was appointed as Ambassador of the 2011 Philippine International Arts Festival by the National Council for Culture and the Arts .
