Flash Flood California: Warnings of Flash Flood Issued for Southwestern California

Storms in Southern California mountains and deserts prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood watch that includes the Coachella, Apple and Lucerne Valleys, deserts in San Diego county and mountains in Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties.

Wednesday afternoon, a storm centered south of Palm Desert along the Highway 74 corridor wasn't moving much, he said.

Well before the watch was issued Wednesday afternoon, the Coachella Valley saw some light morning rainfall that registered in rain gauges at both ends of the valley, according to the weather service.

Wednesday’s was the first rainfall recorded this month in Palm Springs, but Thermal had seen a trace on Independence Day.

By Wednesday afternoon, the disturbance was centered in eastern San Bernardino County and was moving northwest, he said.
