GMA Network Wins 4 Trophies at The 46th Anvil Awards

Leading broadcast company GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) bagged honors anew from the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) at the recently concluded 46th Anvil Awards held at the Isla Ballroom of EDSA Shangri-La Hotel.

GMA was cited with four anvil awards, including a Bronze Anvil for the production of the Philippine National Anthem, Lupang Hinirang's cinematic version, which is currently airing over SM cinemas and GMA's television channels. It was shot wholly in high-definition (HD) digital video technology.

The two-and-a-half-minute music video retells Philippine history through a succession of carefully-crafted and awe-inspiring reenactments of historical events from Lapu-Lapu's victory over Magellan's troops in the Battle of Mactan to the Filipinos' peaceful revolt in pursuit of democracy in the 1986 People Power Revolution at EDSA.

The Lupang Hinirang cinema version, which was entered in the multimedia subcategory, convincingly stood out from among the other entries of the public relations tools.

Other GMA programs cited with merit awards were the I M Ready campaign for the crisis or disaster and risk communications category; the KAPUSO: The GMA Story coffee table book for the publications category; and the GMA 60th anniversary celebration for the special events category.

As an offshoot of typhoon Ondoy, the I M Ready campaign was developed by GMA News to empower and prompt Filipinos when faced with emergency situations. The campaign, which went on-air and online, had three M's to disaster preparedness: Magplano, Magsiguro, Makibalita.

The KAPUSO: The GMA Story coffee table book, meanwhile, has a unique retelling of the company's history with firsthand accounts from key people behind GMA. The 199-page book was written by celebrated author and editor-at-large Krip Yuson.

Meanwhile, the GMA 60th anniversary was a yearlong celebration with the theme 'Touching Hearts, Enriching Lives.' The lineup of projects points to the continuing success story of GMA from a fledgling radio station in 1950s to one of the most successful broadcast companies today.

The yearlong celebration had components that ran across GMA's multimedia platforms. On-air, GMA went aggressive with the Tagumpay ng Kapuso (60th anniversary) station ID, milestone television commercials and mini-station IDs, and a grand television special titled, GMA at 60, The Heart of Television.

It was also heavily documented in print as the Network produced a special anniversary supplement released in July 2010, amid a rundown of publicity executions for GMA's 60th. The celebration also penetrated the new media thru running microsites and text promos.

The Anvil Awards, founded in 1965, is annually vested by PRSP to outstanding public relations programs thru a distinguished multi-sectoral jury.
