An “all-star” Philippine Azkals football team will face a tough delegation from Sri Lanka to kick-off their journey to the 2014 World Cup, the biggest tournament in the world of football.
With new yet experienced recruits from abroad, the Azkals are confident to snatch a win on unfriendly soil as they play Leg 1of the first round of qualifying matches in Sri Lanka on Wednesday (June 29).
ABS-CBN Sports, the official coveror of Azkals’ international matches, will air the much-awaited opening showdown on Studio 23 at 5:30pm on the same day, pre-empting “Justice League” and “The Wrap.”
Afterwards, the Azkals, will defend home field as the battle shifts to the Philippines for the qualifying round’s Leg 2.
Watch the Philippine football team’s home game at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex live on Sunday (July 3) at 2pm on Studio 23, with a replay on Tuesday (July 5) at 4pm, both on the same channel.
Already stacked with talent led by star players Phil and James Younghusband, Ian Araneta, Neil Etheridge, Angel Guirado, and team captain Aly Borromeo, the Azkals are believed to be more solid with the entry of Fil-Germans Stefan Schrock and returnee Manuel Ott.
The Azkals also played a series of exhibition matches here and abroad to tune-up for their World Cup Qualifier matches with Sri Lanka.
