The death of his ex-wife and daughter of former President Fidel V. Ramos, Josephine "Jo" Ramos, caught actor Lloyd Samartino, her estranged husband, in shock.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC), the former actor matinee actor said he knew about Jo's condition but believed that she was getting better.
"I know she fought it really hard kasi siya din, na-underestimate niya din ang bilis. By the time na nalaman namin, kalat na kalat na," Lloyd said.
The actor, who last saw his ex-wife 2 months ago, has only good words for her especially for being a mother to their 17-year-old son Sergio.
"Jo is a wonderful mom. She's really a hands-on mom sa anak namin. It's a testimony sa kanya na lumaki ang anak ko na level-headed, very grounded considering kung sino sila," he said.
However, in a separate interivew, Lloyd also expressed concerns about their son who has been living with his mom since his parents separation.
"I was very very sad for my son because Jo and I have been apart for quite a long time already and my son grew up practically with her and this happened very prematurely," Lloyd said.
Samartino said he would be giving Sergio the freedom to choose whether to remain with his son's mother or father side of the family.
