Velvet is spicing things up this August with the hippest red carpet Hollywood event of the year!
The Teen Choice Awards 2011 will celebrate the hottest teen icons in film, television, music, sports and fashion in the choicest, star-studded two-hour event airing live via satellite Monday, August 8 at 8am on Velvet. Kaley Cuoco, best known for her starring role in the comedy series The Big Bang Theory, rides the surf in to take on hosting duties for this year’s ceremonies. This is the only awards show where the winners - in categories in movies, music and television - are decided based purely on teen votes.
Among the industry’s biggest names are among the nominees for this year’s show. Will controversial pop sensation with the boyish good looks Justin Bieber prevail over the equally popular Bruno Mars, who made every girl in the planet fall in love with his swoonworthy ditties? Or will it be Jason Derulo’s hip-hop spell or Enrique Iglesias’ sexy Latin moves that will beat the two for the title of Choice Music: Male Music Artist award?
The ladies’ hot red carpet looks have also been the talk of the town, as Miley Cyrus, Vanessa Hudgens, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Taylor Swift vie for Choice Red Carpet Fashion Icon: Female. On the matinee idol front, Bieber also joins the ranks of the other Choice Red Carpet Fashion Icon: Male contenders – Chris Colfer, Zac Efron, Jaden Smith and Justin Timberlake.
How many surfboards, on the other hand, will “Twilight” stars Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattison take home this year? Robert is up for a total of four awards, including Choice Movie Actor: Drama for “Water for Elephants,” Choice Movie Actor: Science Fiction / Fantasy (against Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe) and Choice Movie Liplock for kissing his “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” co-star Kristen Stewart. Robert also faces strong competition from his other co-star Taylor—who has his own share of smooches with Kristen in the movie. Kristen is up against Harry Potter alum Emma Watson for the Choice Movie Actor: Female.
The night’s musical breaks will be delivered by Teen Choice nominees One Republic, R&B superstar Jason Derulo and teen sensation Selena Gomez and The Scene while seven-time Grammy Award-winning artist, producer and nominee “will.i.am” will spin music’s hottest tracks as “choice DJ.”
“Hawaii Five-O” bagged three nominations in the Choice TV - action categories: Choice TV Actor - Action for Daniel Dae Kim; Choice TV Actress—Action for Grace Park; and Choice TV: Action. “Make It Or Break It” also made it as one of the contenders for the Choice TV: Drama category, while its lead star Josie Loren is nominated as Choice TV Actress: Drama. Will “Make It Or Break It” make it against its tough competitor “Gossip Girl?”
Reality also staked their claim as hit entertainment with their own set of categories. Hit show “Jersey Shore” garnered three nominations, including Choice TV: Reality Show and a double-header for its stars Paul “Pauly D” Del Vecchio and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino in the category Choice TV: Male Reality/Variety Star. Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi made the cut for Choice TV: Female Reality/Variety Star category, putting her alongside the ladies of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” – Kim, Khloe and Kourtney. The hit dance show “So You Think You Can Dance” got a nod for Choice TV: Reality Competition Show while “America’s Next Top Model” was counted in for Choice TV: Personality for Tyra Banks.
Velvet is proud to be the channel that airs six of the nominated hit shows in this year’s Teen Choice awards - “Hawaii Five-O” “Make It Or Break It,” “Jersey Shore,” “Keeping Up With The Kardashians,” “America’s Next Top Model” and “So You Think You Can Dance.”
On the musical front, cool ladies Adele, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Rihanna and Taylor Swift are gunning for the surfboard in the Choice Music – female category while the Black-Eyed Peas, Far East Movement, the cast of Glee, Selena Gomez & The Scene and The Script are all in the running for Choice Music: Band.
