Alex Gonzaga’s star gets a notch shiner in the entertainment industry as she ventures into serious acting in TV5’s first primetime drama, Babaeng Hampaslupa.
The public first witnessed her acting potential in the hit youth-oriented show BFGF where she plays the role of Yaya Claring, a modern-day Cinderella who falls head over heels in love with her knight/master Sir Kean (Kean Cipriano). Prior to this project, Alex has already proven her flexibility as a total entertainer - a comic princess in LokomokoU, a multi-talented performer in P.O.5 and the bubbly host of gossip show Juicy. With four regular shows that require talent and flexibility, Alex Gonzaga is undeniably the most visible face on TV today.
In what could be her biggest break yet, the young actress is set to play the role of Grace, a woman of both charm and fighting spirit from the slums of Tondo. Day by day, the hills of garbage have provided food on their table: a clear picture of poverty which drives Grace to strive and find their way out of an impoverished life. And soon enough, she would discover the world that links to her real identity.
But despite the glaring reality in a shanty town like Baseco, the series finds deeper sense of relationship grown out of poverty with Grace and Nato (Alwyn Uytingco), her ingenious best friend through ups and downs. As they promised to fight life’s imbalance, Nato has found himself secretly in love with Grace.
Fate brings Grace to another world where she crosses paths with Andrew (Martin Escudero), an aspiring young entrepreneur who works relentlessly to prove himself to his foster family, Helena (Ms. Susan Roces) and Anastacia See (Alice Dixson). Just when he is slowly getting into Grace, Stephanie (Karel Marquez), enters the scene and claims her stake of Andrew’s affection.
Babaeng Hampaslupa is the second project of Alex and Alwyn together. Their first team-up on BFGF (Alwyn was introduced as a new twist in the love story of Yaya Claring and Sir Kean) has earned positive feedbacks from the viewers. Meanwhile, the series marks the first project of Alex and Martin together following the latter’s recent transfer to the Happy Network.
Will Grace settle for the man she has been with through hard times? Or she will fall for the one who might be holding the key to her real identity. Find out this February 7 in Babaeng Hampaslupa only on TV5.
